Some PDFs ask for a password every time, like bank statements, payslips or files from work. If you know the password, type it once here and you get a copy that opens without one. That makes it easier to merge, compress or upload the file, or to add your signature to it.
This only works with the right password. We do not guess or crack passwords.
Editing restrictions are removed too
Some PDFs open without a password but stop you from printing, copying text or changing the file. These are "editing restrictions". Choose such a PDF and we remove the restrictions straight away, without asking for a password. Please only do this with files you are allowed to change.
Nothing else changes
Only the protection is removed. The text stays real text you can select and search, and form fields stay fillable. Nothing is turned into a picture. Your original file stays as it was, and the unlocked copy is named with "-unlocked" at the end.

Questions
I forgot the password. Can you unlock it?
No. If you don't know the password, we can't open it, and nobody honest can promise to. Try the passwords you usually use for that kind of document, or ask whoever sent you the file.
What are "editing restrictions"?
A PDF can have a second password, called an owner password, that asks PDF apps to block printing, copying or changes. The file still opens without a password. If you choose a PDF like that here, we remove the restrictions without asking for any password.
Is it safe to type my password here?
Yes. The password is only used on your device, to open your file. It is not saved, not sent anywhere and not kept with your work. Close the page and it is gone.
Will my PDF look different?
No. Only the password is removed. Text, pages and form fields stay as they were, and nothing is turned into a picture.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your PDF is unlocked inside your own browser, on your own device, and is never sent to a server. The unlocking engine comes from our own website the first time you choose a file, and your browser keeps a copy, so after that it also works without internet.
Is it really free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, with no account, no daily limit and no watermark. Because your device does the work, it costs us almost nothing to run.
